The National Diet Library has released National Diet Library Digital Archive Portal “PORTA” on October 15.
PORTA is a comprehensive portal site which navigates its users to Japanese digital information resources and services providing such resources; archives of cooperative institutions such as National Archives of Japan or Aozora Bunko in addition to our digital archives such as “Digital Library from the Meiji Era” or “Rare Books Image Database”. As of October 2007, 20 types of digital archives with 8 million data are available.
Now PORTA started full scale operation after the prototype trial and is going to extend its range.

PORTA's featured functions are:

1. searching information from deep Web contents which cannot search from search engines
2. various search functions
3. personalization (interface design, bookmark setting and so on)

“PORTA”, the short name for this site, is a Latin word meaning “gate” or “entrance.”
