Q: Where is the NDL located?

A: We have main three facilities: the Tokyo Main Library (Nagata-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), the Kansai-kan (Seika-cho, Soraku-gun, Kyoto) and the ILCL (Ueno Park, Taito-ku, Tokyo). Go to each facility's website for details.

Q: When are the library holidays?

A: The Tokyo Main Library and the Kansai-kan close on Sundays, national holidays, the yearend and New Year's holidays and the third Wednesdays (for refiling). The ILCL closes on Mondays, national holidays except May 5 (Children's Day), the yearend and New Year's holidays and the third Wednesdays (for refiling).

Q: What are the opening hours?

The opening hours vary among the three facilities. Please confirm each service's hours as well, since acceptance of requests for some services including book delivery and copying is closed earlier than the closing time of the libraries. Some special materials rooms also have different service hours.

Q: What should I do to enter the NDL (the Tokyo Main Library and the Kansai-kan)?

A:You cannot bring your bags, etc. with you into the library, so please use the coin lockers at the entrance. Then follow the instructions of the User Card Issuing Machine and enter your personal information to obtain a user card. Hold your user card over the sensor of the entrance gate to enter the library.
