Q: Can I search all Japanese periodical articles using the Japanese Periodicals Index?
A: You can search only the articles carried in the periodicals that the NDL has chosen to index for the Japanese Periodicals Index. "The List of indexed periodicals in the Japanese Periodicals Index " (Japanese only) shows the scope of coverage. Our guidelines are "The Standards for choosing periodicals for the Japanese Periodicals Index " (Japanese only).

Q: I cannot find an article supposed to be carried in a periodical indexed in the Japanese Periodicals Index.
A: Not all articles in the listed periodicals are indexed. For example, articles of less than two pages are not indexed. See "The Standards for indexing articles for the Japanese Periodicals Index " (Japanese only).
You cannot search an article that is carried in a listed periodical but in an issue published before we started to index or after we stopped indexing it. See "The List of indexed periodicals in the Japanese Periodicals Index " (Japanese only).
