Lecture and Discussion by Dr. Jean-Noël Jeanneney
"Internet et la culture: une chance ou un péril?" (The Internet and culture: opportunity or danger?)
(This event has ended.)

portrait of Dr. Jeanneney

The National Diet Library will invite Dr. Jean-Noël Jeanneney, former President of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, and hold lecture meetings under the auspices of the Asahi Shimbun Company.

With the development of search engines such as Google, the information society seems to be flourishing in English. Dr. Jeanneney, historian and politician, presented the first concept for a European digital library, insisting on the importance of multiculturalism and multilingualism. He published Quand Google défie l'Europe : plaidoyer pour un sursaut, in 2005, when he was the President of the Bibliothèque nationale de France. In the lecture meetings, Dr. Jeanneney will talk about relations between the Internet and culture in the development of informatization.

The lectures under same title will be given in the Tokyo Main Library (Tokyo) and the Kansai-kan (Kyoto). After the lecture in Tokyo, there will be a talk between Dr. Jeanneney and Dr. Makoto Nagao, Librarian of the National Diet Library.
