International Policy Seminar "The functions of parliament in the global era -- suggestions for Japanese politics from the EU experiences"
(This event has ended.)

The National Diet Library is pleased to announce the holding of a seminar to examine the role of national and European parliaments in the global age.(The seminar with the same title for November 12 was cancelled. We will have a new seminar with a same title and a new lecturer.)

As the globalization of economic activity progresses, multinational companies, their markets, and their normative values have come to exert an ever increasing influence on what have been conventionally seen as domestic issues. Given this situation, what roles should a national parliament play in support of the democratic process?
The National Diet Library is pleased to sponsor a seminar featuring a lecture by Prof. Dr. Jean-Eric Gicquel, a specialist in constitution and parliamentary law, who will discuss what the EU experience suggests for Japanese politics. After his lecture, he will join a panel discussion with Japanese experts on constitutional and European law.
