"Fulfilling the Public Library’s 21st Century Potential: The Power of a Strategic Plan"
(This event has ended.)

The National Diet Library will invite Ms. Amy E. Ryan, President of the Boston Public Library (BPL), to hold a lecture meeting.
The BPL, which was established in 1848, was the first large free public library in the United States. In addition to 8.9 million books, the BPL owns a number of rare books including several first edition folios by Shakespeare and original music scores from Mozart to Prokofiev. The BPL receives over three million visitors a year and has 25 branch libraries for community service.
As the President of BPL, Ms. Ryan will give an outline of BPL, its history, current services, future strategies and efforts, presenting its 2011 strategic plan, "COMPASS." This lecture will show you a useful vision for the public library in the 21st century.
