Statistical Materials for Learning about Japan

Introduction

“Statistical Materials for Learning about Japan”is an English-language guide to statistical information about Japan. It introduces major statistical materials on Japan written in English, or in both Japanese and English, in the form of printed publications and Internet information. A bibliographical note is added to each piece of material. As a rule, the statistics presented are linked to relevant Internet sites in English, even for those available only in printed form.

The contents of this guide consist of Reference Tools for searching for statistical data, Long-term Statistics, Comprehensive Statistics exhaustively covering all areas, Summarized Statistics in Selected Areas limited to certain categories, and a wide variety of Primary Statistical Data. While Reference Tools and Long-term Statistics are each included in an independent chapter, Comprehensive Statistics and Summarized Statistics in Selected Areas are divided into English versions and bilingual versions, where the original Japanese can be referred to. The chapter for Primary Statistical Data is divided into sections by area. Although both English and bilingual data are introduced in some sections, each section is not separated by language to avoid confusion.

Bibliographical notes to serial publications are based on the latest edition at the time this Website was established. With regard to the publications for sale, the price of the latest edition is shown. It should be noted that ‘bilingual’materials include those that have only tables of contents and titles of statistical tables written in English. This is not something specifically indicated in this guide.
