National Diet Library

Image database of the books published in the Meiji and Taisho era and held by the NDL.
As of August 2009, 156,000 volumes, excluding children's books and books in Western languages, are available. The books provided are as follows;

1. Books whose copyrights are expired
2. Books whose copyright holders permit NDL to digitize and show on the internet
3. Books licensed by the Commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs

Image data (957 titles; 51,000 images) of the NDL's rare and old books including important cultural properties and colored materials can be searched and enjoyed.

This page offers digital images of Japanese children's books held by the National Diet Library including the International Library of Children's Literature, mainly published in and before 1955.

This page introduces a project that collects and preserves websites and online periodicals on the Internet as cultural heritage.

PORTA is a comprehensive portal site which navigates you to digital information resources and services providing such resources. PORTA guides you in an integrated fashion to the contents and services of a number of digital archives of other cooperating institutions such as National Archives of Japan, Aozora Bunko etc. in addition to NDL's digital archives.
