No. 83, August 2015
The National Library of Australia is pleased to announce that the Australian Parliament has just passed legislation updating the legal deposit provisions of the Copyright Act, which will enable the collection of digital publications by the Library.
The new provisions will come into effect six months from the date of royal assent by the Governor General. These provisions require:
- the deposit of all literary/artistic works which are protected by copyright and are books, websites, sheet music, maps, etc.
- that hardcopy material (print and physical format) published in Australia be deposited automatically by the publisher following publication; and
- that online material be delivered on request, including through such mechanisms as web harvesting or direct network transfer.
Any enquiries about the new legislation should be directed to Alison Dellit, Director of Australian Collections Management (email: email@example.com).
More information will be provided in a later issue.
