No. 73, March/April 2012

On April 1, 2012, I was appointed the Librarian of the National Diet Library, succeeding Dr. Makoto Nagao.
In the rapidly changing information society, libraries are now expected to take on new roles and responsibilities. I have already had over 36 years' working experience in the National Diet Library, up to 2004, but now as Librarian, I hope to take the Library even further from the conventional library image, aspiring to adequately meet people's expectations.
I am very happy to extend warm greetings to my library colleagues in the Asia-Oceania region. Although regrettably I cannot attend this year's CDNL-AO meeting in Bali, I look forward to working together and sharing many activities with you all.
With warmest regards and good wishes,
Noritada Otaki
