A week long Basic Library Management Training has been organized from 22 June 2008 to 28 June 2008 at Khandbari, Sankhuwasabha district. The training programme was jointly organized by Yaphu Library, Information and Resource Centre and Shree Himalaya Campus, Sankhuwasabha in technical cooperation with Nepal National Library. The training was aimed at imparting basic knowledge about systematic and scientific way of managing and running a library to the staff of community and academic libraries. There were 26 participants from different community and academic libraries of Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur districts. The participants were introduced with theoretical and practical knowledge of basic and general idea of collection building, accessioning, classification, cataloguing, circulation and other services to be provided by a library and other aspects of library science during the training.

Speaking on the certificate distribution ceremony Mr. Sher Bahadur Dhungana, Local Development Officer of Sankhuwabha district shed light upon the importance of community library and he also assured of assistance from District Development Committee of Sankhuwasabha in the development of library in the district. Mr. Dilli Ram Luintel, District Education Officer pointed out the need of such training programme in remote areas and further said that the libraries in local area would be benefited from such training. Mr. Damodar Bhattarai, Bibliographer of Nepal National Library, summarizing the content of the programme said that practical exercises were also carried out along with theoretical lectures. He also expressed the hope that the participants would be able to handle small libraries smoothly. Mr. Sher Bahadur Ban, Chairman of Himalaya Higher Secondary School Management Committee expressed his happiness over organizing such training in Sankhuwasabha.

The training programme was organized with the financial assistance of District Development Committed Sankhuwasabha, Khandbari Municipality, District Education Office Sankhuwasabha, different Village Development Committees of the district and other organizations. Nepal National Library supported technically by providing two resource persons.
