| The 11th Meeting of Conference of Directors of National Libraries in
Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO) was held on October 19, 2003, at the International
Convention Centre, Brunei Darussalam. Mr. Ramachandran, Deputy Chief Executive
of the National Library Board, Singapore, presided at the meeting.
Directors and proxies from 12 countries attended the meeting. 15 countries
(including countries not attending) had submitted country reports, and
the attendants outlined their reports. Japan, Indonesia, Singapore and
Malaysia made presentations. The next meeting will be held in autumn 2004
in China.
In the same venue as the CDNLAO meeting, the Congress of Southeast Asian
Librarians (CONSAL) XII was held from October 19 to 23. The theme was "Information
Resources Empowerment: Enhancing Knowledge Empowerment," and more than
400 people from ASEAN and non-ASEAN countries attended the meeting.
