Exhibition and one day seminor of the centenary
of Bung Karno and the laying of the cornerstone of the Bung Karno Library
as embryo to the establishment of the Indonesean Presidential Libraries

On the 11-13 June 2001, the National Library of Indonesia organized a Commemoration of the Centenary of BUNG KARNO (1901-2001), the Founding Father / Proclamator / First President of the Republic of Indonesia. Throughout the whole Indonesia, many activities were held to commemorate Bung Karno such as shows, exhibitions and seminars.

In the National Library of Indonesia on the 11-l3 June 2001 were held an exhibition of Bung Karno collections and a seminar with the following speakers: 1. Prof. A. Dahlan Ranuwihardjo, SH.

The peak of the celebration was in Blitar, East Java the birthplace of Bung Karno, where "The HAUL BUNG KARNO" (the commemoration of his death on 20 June) was held. Thousands of people followed this important event which was attended by President Abdurrahman Wahid, Vice President Megawati, Several Ministers and Ambassadors. The next day (21 June 2001) was the ceremony of laying the cornerstone for the Bung Karno Library "Penyambung Lidah Rakyat" attended by Guruh Sukarnoputra (Son of Bung Kamo), Ms. Dewi Sukarno (the charming Japanese wife of Bung Karno), the Blitar Mayor Mr. Djarot Saiful Hidayat, Drs, Ms. and Mr. Paul Permadi. The inscription stone was signed by Guruh Sukarnoputra and Ms. Dewi Sukarno who donated the first funds for this project.
Mr. Permadi handed over the book donation about Bung Karno fromo National Library of Indonesia to Blitar Mayor The Bung Karno Library in Blitar according to the design consist of 3 floors: 1. The first floor: a. Sculpture of Bung Karno "thinking while reading and
reading while thinking"
2. The second floor: a. Room for audio collection
3. The third floor: a. Room for head of the library, meeting room, room for
online service, room for multimedia
The total area of these three floors is 4,500 square meters on a land
space of 10,000 square meters.
