The National Library Board (NLB) of Singapore is proud to have received the inaugural  H.E.A.L.T.H. (Help Employees Achieve Life-Time Health) award from the Ministry of Health (MOH) & the Committee on Healthy Lifestyle. NLB staff working out at the Courtyard
This award was presented on 9th September 1999 by PM Goh to organisations in recognition of their efforts in implementing health programmes and activities at work. The basic criteria for this award are the successful implementation and sustenance of workplace health promotional programs for a year, and a clean safety record. To achieve the 'gold' award, the organisation must have implemented healthy activities for staff at work for 3 years or more.

This was the first time the award was given out in Singapore, and it would become an annual event. Over 100 public and private organisations were presented with the award this year but NLB was one of the 12 which received the 'gold' award.

The MOH also designated Friday 10 September 1999 to be A.C.T.I.V.E. (All Companies Together in Various Exercises) Day. On this day, staff from participating organisations engaged themselves in healthy activities at work.

On (strikethrough: in) the morning of A.C.T.I.V.E. Day, NLB staff came together to work out at the National Library Courtyard, led by our very own aerobics instructor. The spirit of the staff was so high that the drizzle did not deter them from sweating it out!

This award hence represents NLB's commitment to promoting a healthy work lifestyle. NLB believes that high quality library services can only be achieved by healthy staff.
