Assistant Secretary Library Services Mr. Walter Huberts-Rhein, a member of the committee that had contributed to the 2nd part of the Education Plan said that one of the development objectives of the plan includes, Provision of Basic Education for All up to Form 3 by the year 2010. 

Library Services is among the areas proposed for development. Library Services will focus on services provided to Primary and Secondary schools, Vocational training centres, and Provincial/Public libraries. 

The plan proposes to improve access and quality of library services to schools, Vocational training centres, and Provincial/Public libraries. 

This will include: 

• Building of libraries in Schools, Vocational training centres and Provincial capitals that don't have them, and renovation of existing ones, together with supply of standard library furniture and equipment.
• Provide continued supply of additional curriculum texts, relevant and quality information resources, to support the school and vocational training centre curriculum.
• Teacher/Librarian training, including training of National Library and Provincial/Public library staff.
• Upgrading and expansion of National Library Head Quarter based facilities, to effectively manage and coordinate delivery of library services to the nation, and in particular to schools and vocational training centres.

 

• All schools, vocational training centres, and Provincial capitals would have access to proper library services.
• The National Library Head Quarters, would have proper facilities and would be coordinating an efficient National Library Service nation wide.
• Library services would be contributing to increasing the literacy rate/level in Solomon Islands.
