A New Resources for the Asia-Pacific Region |
| The CDNLAO Website
Have a look at the wonderful building that is the National Library of Malaysia. Find out what a diverse range of materials make up the National Library of Mongolia's collection. Check the opening hours for the National Library of Papua New Guinea. Do all this and much more without leaving your seat. It is all possible via the new CDNLAO Website. The new website, developed and hosted by the National Library of Australia, was created to fill an information gap in our region. It is based on GABRIEL, the website of CDNL (Conference of Directors of European National Libraries). The goal of the website is be a single access point for retrieval of information about the functions, services and collections of the Asia-Pacific National Libraries. At the 7th CDNLAO Conference in Port Moresby, hosted by the National Library Service of Papua New Guinea, on 21 November 1998, the CDNLAO website was demonstrated for the first time to the attendees. The response was extremely positive and ideas for improvements, including access to National Library Acts, and contact information for Inter-Library Lending, are now being incorporated. What's on the CDNLAO Website The website consists of three main elements. Meetings This section of the site Provides reports and recommendations where possible for previous CDNLAO meetings, and information on forthcoming meetings as it becomes available. Member Libraries This part of the site gives web presence to all the member libraries in the Asia Pacific region. It provides information about each Library, its functions, services, collections and legislation. Each countries flag is also a link to the World Wide Web Virtual Library for that country, allowing viewers to go directly to a range of country specific information. Over the past month most library information has been updated in response to our region wide request for new information. Other Useful Resources Provides links to other web sites that may be of interest including the Calendar of Asia-Pacific Library Conferences and the IFLA Universal Availability of Publications Core Programme. This section of the site is expected to expand over time as users flag more sites of interest. Please visit the site at http://www.nla.gov.au/cdnlao/
and send any comments or suggestions to the following address, particularly
if you have suggestions for the Useful Resources section. In addition,
please help raise awareness about the site by establishing a link to it
from your own website.
