Utilizing the contents of the website of the National Diet Library

If you wish to reproduce any item or any portion of any item (image, document, article, data, etc.) on the website of the National Diet Library, with publication (including electromagnetic recording media such as DVD), broadcasting, exhibition or posting on the website and any other medium, please complete the reproduction request form and send to us in advance. If you have any questions, please contact
webrepro@ndl.go.jp

Reproduction request form

The normal procedures from beginning to end are as follows:

  1. Fill out the request form and submit the completed entry form to the National Diet Library.
  2. Request will be confirmed by e-mail.

Conditions of permission for reproduction

  1. It should be clearly specified that the item(s) is/are taken from the National Diet Library website.
  2. The item(s) may not be used for purposes other than the original intent described.

Please note that some requests may be refused or may not be accepted.

Images available via the NDL website can be classified into one of three types: 1. Images for which copyright has expired, 2. images used with permission of the copyright holder, and 3. images licensed by the Commission of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Of these, the following may be reproduced without permission from the NDL. Please be aware, however, that the reproduction of content other than images (bibliographic information, metadata, document, article, etc.) or of the structure of a digital exhibition, whether in part or in its entirety, requires the permission of the NDL.

(1)

Digital Contents of "National Diet Library Digital Collections" which can be confirmed as public domain with the following procedures:

First, make sure that the content (image) is displayed in the Content Area.

Second, check "インターネット公開(保護期間満了)"("Copyright expired" written in Japanese) in the "Access Restriction" of the Bibliographic Information Area.
Please note that even if when "インターネット公開(保護期間満了)"("Copyright expired" written in Japanese) is displayed in the "Access Restriction" of the Bibliographic Information Area," Access Restriction" information can be different depending on each image. So, it is very important to check it with the image you wish to reproduce in the Content Area. Please complete a Reproduction Request Form prior to reproducing any content that is labeled either "インターネット公開(裁定)" (licensed by the Commission of the Agency for Cultural Affairs) or "インターネット公開(許諾)" (used with permission of the copyright holder).

If "Please select a volume or an issue from the TOC/volume column on the left" is displayed instead of the image itself, please select the volume or issue you wish to view from the TOC/volume column on the left. Access restrictions for each volume or issue might differ from the access restrictions for aggregate titles, so please be sure to specify individual volumes or issues.

After selecting the volume or issue you wish, the image should appear in the content area. If "Please select a volume or an issue from the TOC/volume column on the left" is displayed instead of the image itself, please select the volume or issue you wish to view from the TOC/volume column on the left one more time.

After the image is displayed in the content area, please review the access restriction section in the bibliographic information area (metadata). Images for which the access restriction shows "インターネット公開(保護期間満了)" (Copyright expired) can be reproduced without permission from the NDL. Images for which the access restriction shows "インターネット公開(裁定)" (licensed by the Commission of the Agency for Cultural Affairs) or "インターネット公開(許諾)" (used with permission of the copyright holder) may only be reproduced after submitting a completed reproduction request form in advance.
