Basic Research on Digital Information Resources in Overseas Cultural Institutions

The National Diet Library conducted a research on the current state of digital collections in major cultural institutions in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania (Contractor: Hamagin Research Institute, Ltd.).

  1. Survey period
    From December 2010 to February 2011
  2. Surveyed institutions
    Major cultural institutions (national or equivalent level) in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy (including Vatican City), Russia, Netherlands, United States, Canada, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand (62 museums, 19 libraries, 15 archives and 7 audio-visual archives)
  3. Scope of Survey
    1) Outline, scale, file formats, restriction on use, metadata schema, copyright clearance, etc. of digital collections in surveyed institutions
    2) Cooperative projects related to construction and distribution of digital information resources
    3) Policies and Measures to promote construction of digital information resources by ministries in charge of cultural policies in each country
