The 3rd International Preservation Conference was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The 2nd Mutual Visit Program between the National Assembly Library (NAL), the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) of Korea and the NDL was held at Seoul. Mr. Ken'ichi Terakura (Director, Education, Culture, Science and Technology Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) and Mr. Natsuto Fujiwara (Researcher, Overseas Legislative Information Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) visited the NAL and NARS and gave presentations. Two-day symposium "Enhancing the Culture of Reading and Books in the Digital Age - Copyright as a means to foster creativity and access - " was held in association with the NDL, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the International Publishers Association (IPA), Japan Reprographic Rights Center (JRRC), Japan Academic Association for Copyright Clearance (JAACC), Japan Book Publishers Association (JBPA). The 29th Mutual Visit Program between the National Library of China (NLC) and the NDL was held in Beijing. Headed by Mr. Hirofumi Yamaguchi (Senior Specialist, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau), four delegates visited the NLC and gave presentations and exchanged questions and answers. The 13th Mutual Visit Program between the National Library of Korea (NLK) and the NDL was held, and Ms. Hwang Myun (Director, Digital Library Service Division, National Digital Library of Korea), Ms. Cho Jae-hak (Director, Stack Management and Reading Services Department, National Library for Children & Young Adults), Mr. Jinho Park (Senior Researcher, National Digital Library of Korea), and Mr. Jang Bo-seong (National Library Support Center for the Disabled) of NLK visited Japan. 7th International Conference on Preservation of Digital Objects (iPRES2010) was held at Vienna, Austria. Mr. Masaki Shibata (Assistant Director, Digital Library Division, Kansai-kan) and Ms. Yoko Shibata (Digital Library Division, Kansai-kan) attended the Conference. Mr. Shibata also attended International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) Working Group Meetings and 10th International Web Archiving Workshop (IWAW) and gave a presentation titled "NutchWAX Japanization" [PDF200KB] at IIPC.

The 32nd International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) World Congress 2010 was held at Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Ms. Maki Aoyama (Planning and Cooperation Division, International Library of Children's Literature) attended the congress.

Prof. Roger Chartier (Collège de France) was invited to the NDL as a speaker at the lecture meeting titled "History and future of books and reading." He also had discussion session with Prof. Norihiko Fukui (President of Gakushuin University) and Dr. Makoto Nagao, Librarian of the NDL. Ms. Makiko Tatematsu (Assistant Director, Administrative Division, Planning Department) participated in the meeting and gave a presentation titled "Digitization of collection and Web Archiving Project at the National Diet Library." The World Library and Information Congress 2010, the 76th International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) General Conference and Assembly was held in Gothenburg, Sweden. The theme of this year was "Open access to knowledge - promoting sustainable progress." Seven NDL staff members participated in the conference, led by Dr. Makoto Nagao, Librarian.

Mr. Erland Kolding Nielsen (Director General of the Royal Library (Denmark)), and Dr. Jill Cousins (Executive Director of EDL Foundation / Program Director of the European Library) was invited to the NDL to attend the lecture meeting commemorating the launch of the roundtable on digital information resources in MLA collaboration: Connecting intellectual properties - Initiatives in Europe. They also had a panel discussion with Dr. Makoto Nagao, Librarian of the NDL and Prof. Naoki Takubo (Professor of the Faculty of Junior College Division, Kinki University) on "Significance of MLA collaboration."
