December 10-11, 2015

The 5th meeting of the China-Japan-Korea Digital Library Initiative (CJKDLI) was held and four delegates each from the National Library of China and the National Library of Korea visited Japan. December 8-11, 2015

The 6th Mutual Visit Program between the National Assembly Library (NAL), the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) of Korea and the NDL was held at Seoul. Mr. Osamu Higuchi (Director, Parliamentary Documents and Official Publications Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) and Mr. Keiichi Kato (Financial Affairs Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) visited the NAL and NARS and gave presentations. November 30-December 3, 2015

The 2015 Association of Parliamentary Librarians of Asia and the Pacific (APLAP) Conference was held in Canberra, Australia. Mr. Taketoshi ISHIKAWA (Director General, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) and Ms. Miyuki TAKAZAWA (Politics and Parliamentary Affairs Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) attended the meeting. Mr. Ishikawa made a presentation entitled Enhancing the quality and value of our research services at the National Diet Library, Japan (Presentation file: [PDF: 897KB]).

The 34th Mutual Visit Program between the National Library of China (NLC) and the NDL was held, and visiting Japan were Mr. Wang Dongbo (NLC Director Assistant), Dr. Gu Ben (Director, Foreign Language Publications Acquisitions & Cataloguing Department), Ms. Mao Yajun (Director, Coordination and Operation Management Division), Ms. Li Cuiwei (Deputy Director, Reference Department), and Ms. Wang Wei (Acquisitions and Cataloguing Section of Eastern Language Books, Foreign Language Publications Acquisitions & Cataloguing Department) of the NLC. Ms. Junko HIROSE (Specialist, Politics and Parliamentary Affairs Research Service, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) and Mr. Yasushi CHOSA (Politics and Parliamentary Affairs Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) attended the seminar. October 14-16, 2015

Conference on Children's Librarianship hosted by the National Library of the Philippines was held in Puerto Princesa, the Philippines. Ms. Yayoi KITAMURA (Assistant Director, Planning and Cooperation Division, International Library of Children's Literature) attended the conference and made a presentation titled "Children's Books Link the World and Open Up the Future: International Library of Children's Literature National Diet Library of Japan" (Presentation file: [PDF 1.1MB]).

The Annual Directors' Meeting of ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) Centers was held in Belgrade, Serbia. As the Director of Japanese National Centre for ISSN, Ms. Ryuko EBISU (Director, Serials and Non-book Materials Division, Acquisitions and Bibliography Department) participated in the meeting.

October 11-17, 2015

The 2015 Workshop for Overseas Korean Studies Librarians was held in Seoul, Korea. Ms. Yoshiko ITO (Assistant Director, Detached Library in the Diet, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) participated in the workshop and made a presentation titled "The Research and Legislative Reference Bureau of the National Diet Library: Work & Service of Detached Library in the Diet (DLID)" (Presentation file (in Korean): [PDF 519KB]).

The 26th Conference of the European Association of Japanese Resource Specialists (EAJRS) was held in Leiden, the Netherlands. Mr. Tadahiko OSHIBA (Director, Library Support Division, Kansai-kan of the NDL) attended the conference and made a presentation titled "National Diet Library Training for Japanese Studies Librarians ― for Breaking Barriers ―" (Presentation file: [PDF: 0.7MB]). September 7-13, 2015

The 18th Mutual Visit Program between the National Library of Korea (NLK) and the NDL was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Headed by Mr. Tadahiko MOTOYOSHI (Deputy Director General, Reader Services and Collections Department), three delegates visited the NLK and gave presentations and exchanged questions and answers relating to the themes "Remote services" and "Latest trends of making and providing bibliographic data." September 2, 2015

H.E. Mr. CHIN Siat Yoon, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Japan, visited the NDL. About 300 books on Singapore were donated as part of the "SG50 Gift of Books" Project, in which books related to Singapore are donated to libraries of 40 countries, in celebration of the golden jubilee of Singapore. Mr. Kenji KOSAKA, Chair of the Japan Singapore Parliamentary Friendship League (JSPFL) and Member of the House of Councillors, attended the ceremony.

The International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications 2015 was held in São Paulo, Brazil. Mr. Yoshikazu NAGAI (Director, Digital Information Distribution Division, Digital Information Department) attended the conference and made a presentation titled "Use and Connect: Linked Open Data of the National Diet Library, Japan" (Presentation file: [PDF 38KB]).

August 15-21, 2015

The World Library and Information Congress 2015, the 81st International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) General Conference and Assembly was held in Cape Town, South Africa. The theme of this year was "Dynamic Libraries: Access, Development and Transformation." Six NDL staff members participated in the conference, led by Mr. Mitsuaki AMINO (Deputy Librarian). Mr. Amino also participated in the annual meeting of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries (CDNL) held on August 18, as the proxy of Mr. Noritada OTAKI, Librarian of the NDL. The 44th Annual International Conference and 17th International Forum on Research in School Librarianship was held in Maastricht, Netherlands. Mr. Shigeru MATSUURA (Senior Librarian, International Library of Children’s Literature) attended the meeting.

June 10-13, 2015

The 23rd Meeting of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO) was held on June 10 in Bangkok, Thailand. Ms. Hiroko ISHIWATARI (Director General, Reader Services and Collections Department) was among the 31 delegates from 21 countries who attended the conference. (For information on the CDNLAO, see Links (International library organizations related with the National Diet Library).) The 16th Congress of Southeast Asian Librarians (CONSAL) was held from June 11 to 13, and Ms. ISHIWATARI also participated in the conference. Mr. Roly Keating, Chief Executive of the British Library, was invited to the NDL to give a lecture entitled "Living Knowledge: The British Library's Future Vision" at the Tokyo Main Library. A Question and Answer Session was conducted with the interviewer Prof. Emer. Shunsaku TAMURA (Keio University). The annual meetings of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), the Council on East Asian Libraries (CEAL), and the meeting of the North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources (NCC) were held in Chicago, USA. Mr. Masashi KOSAKA (Assistant Director, Reader Services and Collections Department), Mr. Shinichi TSUCHIYA (Assistant Director, Library Support Division, Kansai-kan) and Dr. Nobuhiko KIKUCHI (Public Services Division, Kansai-kan) attended the meetings. In the NCC meeting, Mr. Kosaka made a presentation titled "A Guide to Using Online Services of the NDL" (Presentation file: [PDF 1.3MB]), and Mr. Tsuchiya made a presentation titled "NDL training plan for Japanese studies librarians" (Presentation file: [PDF 591KB]).
