The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), Legislative Summit 2013 was held in Atlanta, U.S.A. Mr. Ken'ichi Terakura (Specialist, Interdisciplinary Research Service, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) attended the conference.
June 3-7, 2013
ISO/TC46 Plenary Meeting was held in Paris, France. Mr. Naoto Kawase (Digital Information Services Division, Digital Information Department) attended the conference.
May 27-June 3, 2013
The 16th Mutual Visit Program between the National Library of Korea (NLK) and the NDL was held in the Republic of Korea. Headed by Mr. Tetsuro Kurahashi (Director, Book and Serials Division, Reader Services and Collections Department), four delegates visited the NLK and gave presentations and exchanged questions and answers relating to the themes "Acquisition, cataloging, and preservation of online materials" and "Acquisition, cataloging and user service for non-book materials." The International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) General Assembly was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Mr. Tsutomu Shimura (Digital Library Division, Kansai-kan) attended the assembly and made a presentation titled “Current status of Web archiving of the National Diet Library, Japan” (Presentation file: PDF[346KB]).

The 21st Meeting of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, under the title of “National Library as an Agent of Transformation.” Ms. Naoko Sato (Library Counsellor, Acquisitions and Bibliography Department) and Ms. Yuko Kumakura (Branch Libraries and Cooperation Division, Administrative Department) were among the 31 delegates from 22 countries who attended the conference.

The annual meetings of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) and the Council on East Asian Libraries (CEAL), and the meeting of the North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources (NCC) were held in San Diego, USA. Mr. Hiroo Horiuchi (Library Counsellor, Reader Services and Collections Department) and Ms. Asami Shinoda (Library Support Division, Kansai-kan) attended the meetings. In the AAS meeting, Mr. Horiuchi made a presentation titled “The Modern Japanese Political History Materials – mainly about the Materials on Korea, Formosa, and Manchuria in the prewar period –” (Presentation file: PDF[1.02MB]); in the CEAL meeting, Ms. Shinoda gave a report “Digital Library of the National Diet Library: Update” (Presentation file: PDF[566KB]).

The Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Library organized the National Conference on Empowering Reading Culture in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. Ms. Keiko Harada (Director, Planning and Cooperation Division, International Library of Children’s Literature) attended the conference and made a presentation titled “Empowering Children’s Reading in Japan” (Presentation file: PDF[319KB]).

Dr. Andrew Oros, Associate Professor, Political Science and International Studies, Washington College, was invited to the NDL to give a keynote speech in the International Policy Seminar titled "Visions of the Japan-US relationship after the US presidential election 2012 in the changing strategic circumstances of the Asia-Pacific region" held at the Tokyo Main Library.
