Q
Is there anything that I have to do before Wednesday, December 27, 2017, when the NDL-OPAC ends its services?
A
Please follow the instructions below by Wednesday, December 27, 2017, when the NDL-OPAC ends its services.
  1. Update your registered information
The e-mail address registered as "Mailing address" will be automatically transferred to the new system. Please check whether the address is appropriate. Up to Wednesday, December 27, 2017, 7:00 pm (JST), you can revise it on the current system. From Friday, January 5, 2018, you can check and revise it on the new system, NDL Online.
  2. Extend the expiry date of your registration
If the expiry date of your registration is in the range from Wednesday, December 27, 2017 to Thursday, January 4, 2018 and if you would like to remain registered, please extend the date no later than Wednesday, December 27, 2017, 7:00 pm (JST).
  3. Refer to/Download "My list"
The data in your "My list" of the NDL-OPAC will NOT be transferred to the NDL Online. If you would like to use the same list, it is necessary to make the list again after the launch of the NDL Online.
You will NOT be able to refer to or download the list after Wednesday, December 27, 2017, 7:00 pm.

User ID / Password

Q
Is it possible to use the current ID and password on the new system?
A
Yes, they will remain valid even after the renewal. However, you will have to use capital letters when you enter a password created before Wednesday, December 27, 2017, 7:00 pm (JST). This is because the new system recognizes the difference between capital letters and small ones and your former password has been transferred with capital letters.
Q
Why does the new system recognize the difference between capital letters and small ones?
A
The change aims for stronger information security. Besides the recognition of capitals and small letters, the condition of the number of letters for your password gets stricter than before (8 to 20 letters). In addition, your password should include both letters and numbers.
Q
What should I do when my account is locked due to login failure?
A
Wait 10 minutes, and then you will be able to enter the login information again. Another way is to reset your password and login with the new one. Resetting is possible only in the case where you have registered your e-mail address in advance and you can use the e-mail account immediately.

E-mail address

Q
Why do I need to register my e-mail address?
A
On the new system, your e-mail address is necessary or useful in the cases below.
  1. When you apply, via the NDL Online, for remote photoduplication or interfacility request for browsing, your e-mail address is required.
  2. Notices on application done via the NDL Online and notices on the approach of the expiry date of the registration will be sent to the registered address.
  3. When you forget your password, you can reset your password with the registered address.
Q
How can I register my e-mail address?
A
Up to Wednesday, December 27, 2017, 7:00 pm (JST), please login the NDL-OPAC and click on "Update addresses" of “Your Account & Activity" to register or update your e-mail address. Starting Friday, January 5, 2018, use the NDL Online.

Q
How can I search for materials of the NDL after shutdown of the NDL-OPAC?
A
Use NDL Search instead until the new search service NDL Online is released.
* Refer to: NDL-OPAC services will close at 7:00 pm. on December 27, 2017, JST
Q
What is Online User Registration?
A
The Online User Registration is a new service for individual users, with which you can register as an online registered user. Scope of services for online registered users is limited to remote services offered by the NDL. Less time is needed to complete the registration procedure, so you can apply more promptly for our remote services such as remote photoduplication, etc.
If you are already a registered user of the NDL, there is no need to re-register as an online registered user.
When you register for the first time, an identification document is required to get a user card and to use on-site services at the NDL.
* Refer to: The National Diet Library Online Search and Request Service
Q
Are there any changes in the online application procedure for requesting materials?
A
We used to offer a web form for application for transferring. After the implement of NDL Online, you can apply directly from NDL Online. (You can also apply on-site at the NDL as before).
Q
Will the procedures for making a reference request through libraries change?
A
Requests for reference service used to be submitted via a different system. After the renewal, institutional registered users can make a request for "Reference" via the NDL Online in addition to "Onsite loan", "Loan via mail", and "Remote Photoduplication". Logging-in is required to make use of this service.
Q
Will the search histories saved on the NDL-OPAC be taken over to the NDL Online?
A
Because there is no function to save search history on the NDL Online, search records on the NDL-OPAC will not be taken over.
